Actor Tyler Lepley never imagined he would find himself in a homeless situation, sleeping on the floor of a relative’s home. Nor did he imagine fate giving him his big break as an actor and a second chance to get things right.

This once personal trainer, now TV star, grew up in a rough and unrefined Philadelphia neighborhood where he was active in sports.  As an athlete at Central Bucks High School West, he was gifted enough to receive a football scholarship to Kutztown University where he was a running back for two years. After, giving up on his football career, he stayed in school to complete his degree in Criminal Justice. He worked in the field for a while, but he was unsatisfied with his job. So, he left the job and found himself settling into a life of sleeping on his cousin’s floor and working as a personal trainer in Los Angeles.

And here’s where fate walks in. As explained in an interview with Rolling Out, Tyler Lepley From Personal Trainer to TV Star, “Lepley’s big break was obviously fate.

…Me being as stubborn as I am, I’m not going to settle for anything less. I’m also blessed enough to be in a position that’s almost like my second chance. Here I was, blessed with this football ability, and at the end of the day, I can look at it and learn from it, but I still didn’t get the job done. I don’t want to be someone who’s repeatedly making mistakes. So, I find myself on the West Coast, God drops an opportunity in my lap, I want to apply myself all the way…

According to the one-on-one interview with Demi Lebo, “While being in the right place at the right time helped, his misdirected preparation is what really made him a star.” Lepley was working out one day at a boxing gym when he met a producer that starred him in an independent film. Now, Lepley can be seen gracing the screen on Oprah Winfrey’s OWN network in the Tyler Perry hit drama series, “The Haves and the Have Nots.” Lepley plays the character Benjamin “Benny” Young.
