Ben Carson was selected by real estate mogul Donald Trump to head the Department of Housing and Urban Development, but as a former neurosurgeon, is Ben Carson the right choice to strengthen low income communities and families?
The Ledger reports that Nancy Pelosi sure doesn’t think so! The House Democratic leader said Carson had no credentials for the job and was a “disconcerting and disturbingly unqualified choice.” She said the country deserves someone with “relevant experience to protect the rights of homeowners and renters.”
In his new role as Secretary of Department of HUD, Carson will likely oversee 8,000 employees and a budget of $46 billion and will have sole responsibility of running programs aimed at providing rental assistance for low-income families.
Carson has no experience whatsoever in government or with running a large federal bureaucracy. Carson will bring to the job a philosophical opposition to government programs that encourage what he calls “dependency” and engage in “social engineering.”
However, in a recent Fox News television interview, Mr. Carson said that he was prepared to lead the agency because he grew up “in the inner city” and because as a physician in Baltimore he has “dealt with a lot of patients from that area.”
