At least five people were killed and more than 50 people were injured when an Amtrak train derailed Tuesday night
Amtrak Train Crash Amtrak Train Derailment Philadelphia Amtrak Train Derailment Philadelphia VIDEO 40-60 Injured Amtrak Train Derails, Cars Roll At least 50 people were hurt after an Amtrak train, carrying 240 passenger, derailed and rolled onto its side in the Frankford section of Philadelphia Tuesday night, according to officials.
Former Pennsylvania congressman Patrick Murphy was on the train and first tweeted photos from the accident. “It wobbled at first and then went off the tracks, Murphy told NBC. “There were some pretty banged-up people. One guy next to me was passed out. We kicked out the window in the top of the train car and helped get everyone out.” Sen. Tom Carper of Delaware had gotten off the train in Wilmington, Del., just 40 miles from where the train derailed, his office confirmed.
In a video posted on Instagram from onboard the train moments after the crash, passengers could be heard crying and crawling through the sideways car.
