VOGUE – Arguably the most fashionable quarterback, Cam Newton of the undefeated Carolina Panthers is redefining what style looks like in the NFL. One scroll through his Instagram and you’ll see he favors smoking slippers, shocking pink blazers, and mid-shin-length pants that taper at the hems. Most recently he tacked a 2-foot-long tail to the side of his skinny jeans, which was met with puzzled stares from sports commentators. They must not be familiar with Marc Jacobs’s Spring 2010 show for Louis Vuitton.

One hot button topic in the NFL this season has been uniform customizations. In October, Pittsburgh Steelers defensive end Cameron Heyward wrote “Iron Head” in his black eye paint to commemorate his late father. The NFL said “no way!” to his gesture and reportedly fined him $5,787. Earlier this month, Carolina Panthers cornerback Josh Norman wrote “Proud, Brave” on his cleats as part of the NFL’s Salute to Service campaign, and the league served him with a $5,000 fine. Last year, a number of players including Cam Newton and Richard Sherman were charged $10,000 a pop for wearing Beats headphones during warm-ups—the NFL’s official sponsor is Bose.  Read more…
