Michael Strahan Leaving “Live” for Good Morning America and Kelly Ripa Feels Disrespected –
The vibe between Michael Strahan and Kelly Ripa “remained tense” after Ripa’s weeklong from the “Live” show after being “completely blindsided”by the announcement last week that her co-host, Strahan would be leaving the show, reports People.
ABC has confirmed the news in a statement, explaining that the network came to the decision after meeting with Strahan and Ripa, as well as producers of both Live! and Good Morning America, which Strahan will be joining as a full time co-anchor in September.
Ripa has been at the helm of “Live!” since she came on alongside Regis Philbin in 2001. CNN’s media critic Brian Stelter says Ripa feels “disrespected” by Disney-ABC Television Group president Ben Sherwood, because her show often feels like a second priority behind the network’s crown jewel, “GMA” (aka Strahan’s new home). Also, her treatment at the hands of TV execs isn’t a one-off.
