In case you missed it, during a speech to his HUD staff, Carson commented, that slaves are “immigrants” who came here to “pursue prosperity and happiness.” Rye, like many others, felt that Carson’s comments trivialized slavery by comparing slaves coming over on slave ships to immigrants who voluntarily come to America seeking prosperity and happiness.
“I think at some point we all have to be accountable for the extemporaneous words we use as well,” Rye said of Carson speaking off the cuff at the speech. “Ben Carson said black people worked for less.
