While the former NFL Quarterback, Colin Kaepernick continues his silent protest, he agreed to collaborate with GQ on a special project for the magazine’s December Men of the Year issue. And as the article explains, Kaepernick aims to “reclaim the narrative of his protest.”
Back in September of this year, Colin Kaepernick scored a touchdown when a President eager to make the moment about himself, hijacked the quarterback’s cause. Many people started boycotting the NFL by refusing to attend or watch games months ago in order to get Kaepernick back on an NFL team. The President fumbled by chiming in, calling players that kneel while the National Anthem is being played, “S.O.Bs,” and asks his base to boycott the NFL as well. Score 7 points Kaepernick, 0 for the other team. Now, the NFL and team owners are paying more attention to a problem/cause which they should have attended to from the start!
GQ assembled a ten-person team of Kaepernick’s closest confidants—including rapper J.Cole, director Ava DuVernay, activist Harry Belafonte, and Women’s March co-organizer Linda Sarsour—to speak on the subjects of activism, protest, and equality, and to offer some rare insights into Colin Kaepernick himself.
