When you think of a violinist, an ‘Island Girl’ probably isn’t the first thing that pops in your mind. But Mapy the Violinist is just that, an “Island Girl” who is a one of a kind musical master on the violin and her classically infused music is both explosive and passionate.

Mapy grew up in Paris, France and she has roots from Réunion Island, a region of France.  At the age of 6, she began violin lessons and was influenced by Hip-hop, Soul, Reggae, and Rock music.

She went on to become a violin teacher in Guadeloupe where she fell in love with Soca music and Caribbean culture. She’s well known for her YouTube violin covers, like the one below of Drake’s “God’s Plan,” where she infuses classical sounds with hip-hop beats.

In 2014, Mapy started her career as a solo Hip-Hop, Dancehall, and Soca violinist. In 2017, she released her album “Island Girl” and she recently appeared on the Ellen DeGeneres show where she performed Lemon by N.E.R.D featuring Rihanna.   Mapy plans to start her US tour over the next few months and is working on her second album.
