Instagram Famous, Official Smiley Asian, real name (Desiree D.) recently revealed her side effects from silicone butt injections. In a series of Instagram posts, the 25 year old, explained that she is currently facing life threatening complications caused by silicone injections she received beginning back in 2010. In one post @officialsmileyasian writes, “…I went and got butt injections back in 2010 Through 2012 and now it’s effecting my health. The people that did my injections are now in jail serving a life sentence because somebody died from these illegal shots not to long ago so I can’t reach out to them to fix this Problem I have silicone all up my back from these illegal shots and I know I’m not the only girl that has them. I encourage you ladies all to love your body for what it is because no matter how God made you he made each of us special…”
Desiree, who is the mother of two very young children, will need to undergo more cosmetic surgery to have the silicone removed from her body. And unfortunately, she writes the procedures are not covered by her insurance. For those who want to learn more about her story visit the GoFundMe campaign set up to help offset her medical expenses.
Society puts an almost insurmountable amount of pressure on women to live up to today’s beauty standards. In 2017, quite a few women lost their lives in a quest for beauty and a bigger, more shapely booty. 25-year-old Ranika Hall and 19-year-old Symone Marie Jones were just two of the victims of silicone butt injections gone bad. As reported in the Charlotte Observer, Symone Marie Jones, 19, a native of Fayetteville, NC, died after receiving silicone injections from Kavonceya Iman Cornelius, 42, also known as Kenneth Rudolph Cornelius, who is not licensed to do such procedures. These back alley, black market procedures are proving to be very deadly.
According to Dr. David Samadi, “Free silicone injections come with numerous risks and complications including pulmonary embolism; kidney failure or critical disruption of the kidney functions; inflammation or infection from possible impurities or poor quality silicone; appearance of abnormal nodules or bumps under the skin; nerve damage; bleeding, scarring and abscess in the butt; uneven butt augmentation or asymmetrical results where one cheek is higher or bigger than the other; chest pain, breathing problems, and in some cases, death.”
The costs to undergo corrective surgery are expensive and some victims may not be able to afford to have the surgery. But there may be a bit of hope for some victims. Dr. Adam Rubinstein, a Miami-based, board-certified plastic surgeon launched “Turn the Page”, a program to help patients that lack the means to alleviate their suffering from a botched procedure or bad outcome. Through the “Turn the Page” program, patients can submit their stories for consideration. One patient will be chosen periodically to have their corrective surgery at no charge. If you or someone you know is suffering as a result of a poorly done procedure performed by someone that was not properly trained and licensed, please send the details to help@dr-rubinstein.com. Select patients will be invited to come for a consultation with Dr. Rubinstein to discuss their case and possibly be chosen for the “Turn the Page” program.
