Most of the time we roll our windows up, look the other way and when the light turns green, we go on about our business and that person becomes a distant memory. Not for me though, that person lingers in my mind. I wonder why they are there and what I could possibly do to help them.
A couple of months ago, when the winter storm hit here in Texas, I couldn’t even sleep most of those night cause I was thinking about all the homeless people living under bridges. That weekend my kids and I took all of our blankets and gave them to random homeless people. I even gave away my coat. My life changed that day and for the past couple of months I have been doing what I can to help as many of our homeless brothers and sisters as I can. I cook my own food and take it down to the homeless as often as I can.
I have since started a gofundme page and I have been raising money to feed the homeless and provide them with basic hygiene products. I am proud to announce that on Saturday, March 21, 2015 my friends and I were able to feed the over 100 residents of Tent City. We passed out 60 personal care packages that included toothbrushes, toothpaste, soap, deodarant, pads, etc. They were so grateful. Im not one to pass judgement on these people and their situations. I dont care why theyre homeless, I just care that they are homeless. I know we cant save them, but we can at least feed and clothe them and that is now my lifes mission.
I will be going back to Tent City Saturday, April 18, 2015 to feed, clothe, and provide hygiene products to as many homeless people as I can. If you would like to donate food, clothes, etc, or if you would like to come out and be a part of serving the homeless, please contact me on Facebook. If you would like to donate financially to this cause, please do so at www.gofundme.com/careforthehomeless. The smallest donation will make the greatest impact on their lives.
I didn’t choose this path for my life, this path chose me and I’m grateful for the opportunity to be a blessing to others.
